THE LECTURES AND
SOCIAL ACTIVITIES
 |
The lecture programme included an interesting
account of the W5LUA/VE4MA 24GHz EME work done in the USA. Kent Britain,
WA5VJB, is pictured above delivering the talk. Other speakers included
Dieter, DJ4AM,(10GHz DX), Peter, G3PHO (Microwave Update 2001), Freddie,
ON6UG (AO40) and Steve, G4KNZ (Contests 2002) |
Martlesham is also a time for microwaves to meet
each other and chat over topics of common interest. Pictured right are
(from left to right): Roy, G3FYX and John, G8ACE. Both are well-known in
the UK for their pioneering work on 47 and 76GHz. Indeed they are part
of the "Wessex Millimetre Wave Group" who recently won the G3BNL Trophy
for their efforts on these frequencies. G8ACE is also well-known for his
work on Ovenized Crystal Oscillators (OXCOs). |

On the Saturday night, after dinner at the Courtyard
at Marriott Hotel, Ipswich, where many of us stayed overnight, Michael
Kuhne, DB6NT demonstrated his 24GHz AO40 satellite receiving equipment
(the one with his callsign on it). Here you can see David, G6GXK (in the
red jacket) trying to make head or tail of it all! Unfortunately that evening
was the one every few days when AO40 was low in the sky and no signals
were heard. The other, unmarked dish, is that of Freddie, ON6UG, who can
be seen holding a 2m IF, just behind the dish.
OUR THANKS .... go to all
the members of the Martlesham Radio Society who had a role in making this
a most memorable weekend. |
