MICROWAVE UPDATE 2003

THE SOCIAL SCENE

One of the most important aspects of Microwave Update is the establishing of new friendships and renewing old ones. The fellowship of international amateur microwaves is no more evident than here, at Microwave Update. Over the few days that we were all gathered together, many of us gained much new information but the personal contacts were perhaps more valuable. It's always interesting to hear how other people have approached particular aspects of microwaves that you are also working on. This interchange of ideas and the resulting friendships sets an example for all others to follow, particularly when it comes to international relations.

Two German microwavers enjoying meeting each other, even though they live 7000 miles apart!

In the centre is Gunther, a German born microwaver now living in Vancouver BC, Canada. He's chatting in his mother tongue to Phillip Prinz, DL2AM, the well-known manufacturer of amateur microwave modules in Germany.

The Far East meets the Far West ...

On the right Mike Kana, AA9IL (seated) meets three Japanese microwavers during the Friday night fleamarket. The Japanese amateurs brought a lot of gear, for donation to the auction, as well as loads of enthusiasm and their characteristic courtesy.

THE SATURDAY NIGHT BANQUET ...

A time for enjoying an excellent buffet meal with good company.

It was nice to see wives and girlfriends accompany their partners to this event. The ladies had had their own program of events over the past few days, as their credit card statements would no doubt reflect a little later!

The banquet is also the time for the Grand Prize Draw (where everyone is a winner!) and the presentation of awards and final speeches.

I was glad to win a subscription to CQ VHF magazine in the Prize Draw but our VW Campervan man Eric, KB7DQH, won a $100 cash prize ... maybe he'll get the van steam cleaned and repainted now he's rich!

This not-so-good photo shows Brian Justin, WA1ZMS, going forward to receive an award from Tom, WA1MBA,in honour of the excellent achievements he has made on the bands above 76GHz ... all the way up to 241GHz. .. a well-deserved recognition!

WELL THERE IT IS FOLKS .....

A QUICK LOOK AT MUD 2003 ...

We have dozens of other pictures and loads of memories. For the later we must thank all who organised the event ...

Well done guys ... you did a great job!

See you again ... maybe next year ...
