THURSDAY
27 SEPTEMBER: Surplus Tour continued ..
|
We visited surplus houses and suppliers of new
equipment all morning ....
|
Paul
Wade, W1GHZ and Doug Millar, K6JEY, wonder if they might get some of these
surplus units past their wives when they return home! |
The highlight of the surplus tour was the home
of Jeffrey Pawlan, WA6KBL ... he must have a VERY tolerant wife as the
photo below indicates!
He
has since written to say that most of what you see here has now been sold
and the stack of TWT power supplies, 14GHz up/down converters, etc, has
been reduced to a small pile.... just look at this recent photo!
|
|
What really impressed us "Brits" was the multiplicity
of towers and antennas that Jeffrey was obviously able to erect in his
yard. Over here in the UK we would never get away with this sort of antenna
farm. He had several dishes, including the big EME one shown below, as
well as stacked VHF/UHF arrays for weak signal work. The yard was covered
in surplus units that he was anxious to sell on.

Here's
Jeffrey's EME dish |
Gunther,
VE7CLD and Keith. G4FUF wade through the stuff in Jeffrey's yard while
Meg Robinson (holder of calls N2NQI & M0FRE) the xyl of Dave WW2R looks
on. The scene is more like a "hamfest" than the grounds of someone's home! |
