THE LECTURES

All the presentations can be downloaded in PDF format from the North Texas Microwave Society Website

A full programme of lectures took place over the whole of Friday and much of Saturday.I was once again priviliged to be asked to speak at MUD and, guess what, they (probably that Kent Britain character!)put me on to bat first ... after that everything got a lot more technical!

This photo shows a section of the lecture room. Note the grey hair and general average age of 55+ years. If you're reading this and are interested in microwaves and are YOUNG, we need you urgently! Join the gang by contacting your nearest microwave group.

Here's me, G3PHO, opening the lecture programme on Friday. It's always a little nerve-racking to face a room full of distinguished microwaver operators.

My talk was about microwaving in the UK where I attempted to describe the differences between the USA's and the UK's ways of doing things.

By the way, the Union Jack seen here on the projector screen was added to the title page for effect. I do not fly the flag when I'm out portable!

Barry, VE4MA, spoke on the subject of using WR28 waveguide at 47GHz. This was most interesting for me as I also use it on 24GHz! For most purposes it works fine on both bands but sadly those nice WR28 waveguide switches I bought from New Zealand earlier this year do NOT work at 47GHz!

Brian Justin, WA1ZMS, gave yet another of his excellent, informative lectures, this time on the subject of low-noise oscillators for use at the mm wave frequencies. Brian achieves oscillator stability and purity of a standard that rivals those of much lower bands. To able to find a signal within a few hundred Hz at 241GHz is certainly something!
